Chapter 884: Old Classmate
Chapter 884: Old Classmate
On her way home, Ren Yangyang kept thinking about things from her high school days.
Just as she arrived at the entrance of the teachers' residential compound with her lesson plans and teaching materials, she saw a woman asking the security guard something. The guard happened to see her return and called out to her, "Teacher Ren, someone is looking for you."
As soon as the woman turned around, Ren Yangyang recognized her instantly—it was Liu Yun, her high school classmate! She had been sitting right in front of Huang Xiaochuan.
"Liu Yun?"
"Ren Yangyang!"
The woman named Liu Yun walked up to Ren Yangyang with a happy expression.
"Wow! You've changed quite a bit! I almost didn't recognize you. How did you know I lived here?" Ren Yangyang was a little puzzled by Liu Yun's sudden appearance.
"I specifically went to ask Teacher Zhu. I never expected that you would become a teacher at our alma mater now?" Liu Yun said as she explained how she found out, while constantly looking Ren Yangyang up and down.
Teacher Zhu has retired and used to live here, but later moved to a new community with her son, located north of the city wall, not too far from Qingjiang High School. Ren Yangyang's mother has also retired. The elderly couple only have one daughter, and since Ren Yangyang is a teacher at Qingjiang High School, for work convenience and to ensure their child attends the best primary school in Qingjiang, her family of three moved to her parents' house. Although the house is old, it is quite spacious, with three bedrooms and two living rooms, making it very comfortable for five people.
She knew where some of her high school classmates went after taking the college entrance exam, and Liu Yun happened to be one of them.
So she asked Liu Yun, "I haven't heard from you since you got into Sun Yat-sen University. What are you doing now?"
"Hey, what else can I do but work for capitalists!" Liu Yun said self-deprecatingly, but she smoothed her hair with the hand holding her Hermes bag.
Ren Yangyang naturally understood Liu Yun's reasons for doing so. She smiled inwardly, unconcerned, and asked, "You were looking for me?"
"Oh! It's like this, before I came back a while ago, I ran into Bian Wo in Shenzhen. We hadn't seen each other for more than ten years, and we found that everyone really missed our high school days. So we got together and thought that since many of our classmates might come back during the Lunar New Year, we wanted to organize a class reunion. We haven't been able to contact some of our classmates. You were very close to our class monitor, Qin Yu, back then, right? I thought you might have her contact information, so I came directly to you and also to arrange the class reunion." Liu Yun then explained her purpose.
"A class reunion? I have no objection!" Ren Yangyang was very interested in the first class reunion since graduating from high school. She was always a person who loved to join in the fun. Since graduating from high school, her classmates had gone their separate ways, and very few of them stayed in Qingjiang. Most of them went to big cities to develop their careers. Ren Yangyang also wanted to see what changes her old classmates had undergone after more than ten years.
Seeing that Ren Yangyang agreed so readily, Liu Yun wanted to hand over the task of contacting Qin Yu to Ren Yangyang: "What about contacting the class monitor?"
"I'll ask her, but I can't guarantee anything!" Ren Yangyang didn't give a definitive answer.
"Okay, then I'll leave the class monitor position to you." Liu Yun looked relaxed, as if she had accomplished something very important.
But then she thought of someone else, someone she wasn't sure if she could get him to come: Huang Xiaochuan!
Liu Yun still can't understand how the sunny young man who sat behind her could have achieved such amazing success. He's like a towering mountain, the richest man in Asia, and it seems no one has been able to take his place yet.
If we could invite this person as well, then the class reunion during the Chinese New Year would be truly perfect.
Knowing that class monitor Qin Yu had always secretly liked Huang Xiaochuan, she tried asking Ren Yangyang, "Yangyang, can you or the class monitor contact Huang Xiaochuan?"
Upon hearing Liu Yun mention Huang Xiaochuan, Ren Yangyang immediately recalled the scene of encountering Yu Xiang at school earlier. Yu Xiang is Huang Xiaochuan's current wife and the older sister of his childhood friend Yu Wei.
But she said, "How could I possibly get close to him? I can't contact him. Qin Yu is in the same boat as me. We've lost contact with that guy for a long time."
"Oh, I see! I'll think of another way!" Liu Yun said with some regret.
"You're planning to invite him to the class reunion?" Ren Yangyang expressed her deep admiration for Liu Yun's bold idea.
"Since he's a classmate, why can't we invite him to participate? What if he really wants to participate too? I just don't know how to contact him."
Then Liu Yun started gossiping again, just like she did in high school: "If Huang Xiaochuan comes, do you think he and our class monitor will... you know?"
"Alright, stop thinking about this nonsense. The class monitor was so proactive back then, and they still didn't end up together. Now? It's even less likely. Besides, a rich guy like him has plenty of young and beautiful girls throwing themselves at him." Ren Yangyang thought it was impossible.
Liu Yun noticed something in Ren Yangyang's words: "Haha! You finally told me the truth. I knew it! I always felt that the class monitor had feelings for Huang Xiaochuan. Maybe one of those love letters Huang Xiaochuan received was written by the class monitor."
Ren Yangyang did not deny it. So many years have passed, it's okay to talk about it now. Who hasn't had a time when they first fell in love during their youth?
After exchanging contact information, Ren Yangyang parted ways with Liu Yun without inviting her to her home. Firstly, the two weren't that close, and secondly, Ren Yangyang wanted to maintain some privacy to avoid Liu Yun talking behind her back about what she was doing.
"Why did you take so long?" Ren Yangyang's husband asked her as soon as she entered the house.
"I ran into a high school classmate at the entrance of the residential compound. He said he came specifically to see me and wanted to organize a class reunion during the Spring Festival." Ren Yangyang placed her lesson plans and tutoring materials on the desk in the corner of the living room. There are three bedrooms in the house: one for her and her husband, one for her parents, and one for her child. Naturally, there is no spare room for her to use as a study. She can only make room for a desk in the corner of the living room, which is where she usually grades homework and makes lesson plans when she gets home.
At this moment, her mother, the former director of teaching at Qinggao High School, spoke up: "Your class has actually produced quite a few talented people, but Huang Xiaochuan's presence has overshadowed the achievements of others."
Then the old lady asked, "Will Huang Xiaochuan come back for your class reunion this time?"
"I don't know about that, but so far, none of them have been able to contact him. Besides, that guy isn't so easy to reach these days. The person who answers the phone is either his secretary or his subordinate, and they might just hang up on you." Ren Yangyang snatched the teacup from the man's hand, took a few sips of hot tea, and felt parched after talking to Liu Yun. It was winter, after all.
"Don't be so absolute in your statements. I don't think Huang Xiaochuan is as bad as you say. How much money has he donated to Qinggao? It shows that he has a very broad mind."
"You're right, I was wrong, okay?" Ren Yangyang naturally wouldn't argue with the former dean of students about this matter; that would be pointless. Besides, her mother was becoming more and more nagging, so she preferred to avoid trouble.
