Chapter 336: Do you want revenge?
Chapter 336: Do you want revenge?
Leah had waited a long time for Drago and Lina to return.
When neither of them came back, she grew restless. Rather than stay in the city, she spent several more days traveling and enjoying herself nearby.
The moment she returned, she learned that Drago had finally come back.
She immediately went looking for Lina.
When she discovered that her daughter had not returned with him, she stormed straight to Drago’s quarters.
Drago looked at her coldly.
"Leah, why is the first thing you ask about Lina?"
His voice hardened.
"Why don’t you ask about Nina?"
Leah’s expression did not change.
"What does she have to do with me?"
Drago frowned.
"She’s your daughter. How can it have nothing to do with you?"
"I’ve told you before." Her tone was icy. "She is not my daughter. She has nothing to do with me."
Anger flashed across Drago’s face.
"How is she not? She is our daughter."
Leah remained silent.
The truth was simple. She had never loved Drago. She had only chosen him because of his strength and status. Because of that, she had never felt much affection for Nina either.
After Nina’s appearance had been ruined by poison, that indifference gradually turned into outright disgust.
Seeing her silence, Drago’s expression darkened further.
"Why aren’t you saying anything?"
Leah’s patience was wearing thin.
"Stop changing the subject." Her voice sharpened. "Tell me where Lina is."
She had no interest in discussing Nina.
Not now. Not ever.
"I don’t know."
Drago’s answer was flat and emotionless.
Leah stared at him.
"What do you mean you don’t know?" Her voice rose higher. "She left with you. How could you not know where she is?"
Drago remained calm.
"While we were in Barbarian City, we encountered a mutated beast horde."
His gaze was unreadable.
"She was taken by one of the beasts and disappeared. I searched for her but couldn’t find her."
A brief pause followed.
"She has most likely..."
He left the sentence unfinished. He deliberately concealed the truth.
He refused to tell Leah that Lina was in Nina’s hands. He did not want to deepen the conflict between mother and daughter. Nor did he want Leah to learn that he had selfishly abandoned Lina when forced to choose.
Besides, he doubted Lina would ever return.
Leah’s face turned pale.
"What did you just say?" She grabbed his arm tightly. "How were you protecting her? How could you let her be taken? She’s a female. If she fell into the hands of mutated beasts, then..."
Her voice trembled. She could not even bring herself to imagine the possibilities.
Clutching his arm harder, she demanded, "Send people to find her. Mobilize the entire city if necessary. You have to bring her back."
As long as she had not seen a body, she refused to believe her daughter was gone.
Drago shook her off.
"I’ve already dispatched search parties." His tone lacked any urgency. "If there’s news, you’ll be informed."
Inwardly, he added the rest. There would probably never be any news.
Leah noticed his indifference immediately. Confusion mixed with anger. The Drago she knew had always doted on Lina. If this had happened in the past, he would have been desperately searching for her himself.
Why had he changed so much after one trip?
Realizing she would get no help from him, she left in fury and returned to her own chambers.
She needed to find Laron and come up with another plan. No matter how angry she was, Drago remained the City Lord. She could not afford to openly break with him.
After returning, she told Laron everything. His expression changed instantly.
"What? Are you saying Lina fell into the hands of mutated beasts?"
Worry filled his eyes.
Leah nodded anxiously. "That’s what Drago told me."
She clenched her hands together. "I don’t know what condition she’s in now. What if she really..."
Laron quickly wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
"Nothing will happen to her." His voice was gentle and reassuring. "The Beast God will protect Lina. She’ll be fine."
Taking her hands in his, he continued, "I’ll send people to search for her immediately. No matter what, I’ll bring her home."
Although he spoke confidently, he understood the reality. If Lina had truly fallen into the hands of mutated beasts, her chances of survival were slim. At the same time, he couldn’t shake the feeling that Drago was hiding something.
There might be more to the story than he was telling.
Had he known Lina intended to travel to Barbarian City, he would never have allowed it.
Leaning into his embrace, Leah closed her eyes.
"I hope she’s safe." Her voice was barely above a whisper. "You have to find her."
Laron tightened his arms around her. "I will. You have my word."
A dangerous gleam flashed through his eyes.
"Leah." His voice lowered. "I think it’s time to move our plans forward."
He refused to believe Drago had truly done everything possible.
If Drago had searched with his full strength and authority, how could there be absolutely no information?
The answer seemed obvious. Drago simply did not care enough.
If that was the case, then Laron saw no reason to show mercy either.
Leah frowned slightly but did not object.
"I understand."
Meanwhile, the woman they were desperately trying to find was enduring a living nightmare in Sin Beast City.
Lina sat curled up in a damp, filthy prison cell. The light had long vanished from her eyes.
Only fear remained.
A set of footsteps echoed through the corridor outside. Her body instantly tensed. She wrapped her arms around herself and began trembling uncontrollably.
Only when the footsteps faded into the distance did she finally dare breathe again.
She was terrified of every beastfolk in Sin Beast City.
She had been trapped there for quite some time. Every single day was agony.
Only after arriving did she truly understand how horrifying this place was. The methods the criminals used to torment females were unimaginably cruel.
They hurt her relentlessly, yet they never allowed her to die.
The foul stench hanging in the air made her nauseous. The damp stone walls and suffocating darkness pressed in from every side.
Humiliation and hatred burned inside her.
Nina. It was all because of Nina.
The resentment grew stronger and stronger until it consumed every corner of her heart.
Then, just as her hatred reached its peak, a strange voice suddenly echoed inside her mind.
"Do you want revenge?"
The voice was soft and sinister.
"I can help you."
