Chapter 24 Earning 3 yuan a month! Smiling every day!
The comments section was filled with laughter.
My roommate is such a jerk.
"The school doctor was exposed in front of everyone, and coughed twice to cover up his embarrassment."
"Free meals and accommodation = cafeteria + dormitory, lol."
Lin Mo: I finally got to play the boss for once, and you just had to sabotage me.
"Having a duty room during the lunch break is a real perk."
"It has air conditioning and a bed, isn't this better than a dormitory?"
Roommate: Keep making this up, I'm listening.
Shen Zhiwei did not participate in the debate about "free meals and accommodation" at all.
She had taken out her phone without her noticing.
He opened the calculator and lowered his head.
Slender fingers tapped rapidly across the screen.
Her eyelashes drooped down, casting a small fan-shaped shadow on her eyelids.
His lips moved slightly, as if he was silently reciting some numbers.
Occasionally she would stop, tilt her head and think for a moment, then continue typing on the keyboard.
After finishing the calculation, I looked at the results over and over again several times.
His expression was extremely serious, as if he were calculating an account that concerned the nation's economic lifeline.
Lin Mo noticed her movement, raised an eyebrow, and asked in a curious tone.
"Who do you think you are? Three thousand a month, divided by thirty days, that's one hundred a day. You don't need a calculator, do you?"
Shen Zhiwei looked up and smiled at him.
When she smiled, the corners of her mouth curled up slightly to the sides, revealing a small canine tooth.
Her canine tooth wasn't very sharp, but its position was just right, making her smile look more playful and unguarded.
Two shallow dimples appeared on her cheeks, fleeting yet captivating, making one want to look again.
She realized Lin Mo was staring at her, and a little embarrassed, she covered her mouth with her phone.
Her voice was soft, with a hint of embarrassment at being caught red-handed.
"I'm calculating... how many times can I eat Li's barbecue, Yangcheng pancakes, the spicy hot pot at the South Gate, and the egg pancakes with pork tenderloin at the East Gate with three thousand yuan... and so many more..."
Her voice grew softer and softer as she spoke, and by the last word, it was almost a gurgling sound coming out of her throat.
She didn't dare look at Lin Mo anymore, only staring at the string of numbers she had been calculating for so long on her phone screen, her ears turning red again.
Lin Mo fell silent.
Her best friend also fell silent.
The comments section was not silent.
"She's calculating how much food she can buy."
"Using wages to calculate the cost of barbecue, pancakes, and spicy hot pot—what kind of divine accountant is this?"
"She has a mental map of campus food."
"This is what a real freeloader is like."
Lin Mo: Am I paying you a salary so you can buy food?
Lin Mo leaned back in his chair and rubbed his temples.
The curve of his lips betrayed his true inner emotions.
He was trying not to laugh.
He's seen people calculating rent, clothes, and savings for travel.
But he had never seen anyone get a job and their first thought was to calculate how many meals of barbecue and pancakes that money could buy.
This girl's brain is probably divided into sections.
One area of care knowledge, the rest is all menus.
After about half a minute, Shen Zhiwei finally finished calculating.
She copied the last number from the calculator into her memo.
Then I locked the screen and looked up.
Her eyes—which were now looking directly at Lin Mo—shone with a very pure light.
That wasn't an employee's desire for a higher salary; it was a foodie's precise expectation of how much good food they could eat in a month.
Her pupils shone like two freshly washed black grapes as she stared longingly at Lin Mo.
It was as if he was no longer the school doctor.
Instead, it was a stack of steaming Li Family Roasted Meat, a row of golden Yangcheng Pancakes, and a bowl of spicy hot pot with bubbling red oil.
Then she nodded sharply, so hard that her hair flew up.
The sound was crisp, like striking a triangle.
"I agree! When do we start work?"
Lin Mo looked at her sparkling eyes and laughed.
He leaned back in his chair, picked up his chopsticks, and pointed to the calendar on the table.
"Come and report for duty at 8:00 AM tomorrow. Bring your class schedule so I can schedule your shifts."
Then he turned to look out the window. It was already dark outside, the streetlights were on, and the number of people on campus was gradually decreasing, with only a few figures running on the distant playground.
He put the last piece of sweet and sour pork into his mouth, chewed it twice, swallowed it, put down his chopsticks, and clapped his hands.
"Okay, it's almost time. I don't think anyone will come. I'll go home for the day."
Shen Zhiwei and her best friend were both stunned.
My best friend was the first to react. She glanced at the time on her phone and raised her voice by half an octave: "You're off work before six o'clock?"
Shen Zhiwei's eyes widened, and she blinked, her face full of disbelief.
She subconsciously glanced at the still-dark sky outside the window, then at Lin Mo's matter-of-fact expression. She opened her mouth, probably feeling that these working hours were beyond her understanding of "going to work".
Lin Mo stood up, took off his white coat and hung it on the hanger, then stretched.
His tone was so calm, as if he were stating an irrefutable law of nature.
"The phone is right there, and I've posted my number on the door. In case of an emergency, someone will naturally call."
"If someone needs me, I'll step in, no problem. But I'll leave work on time. I'll consider it a loss if I sit for even a minute longer."
The screen was flooded with comments.
"The school doctor's off-duty rules are exceptionally good."
"Leaving get off work on time is the highest respect for your job."
"I'll admit defeat if I sit for even one more minute"—what kind of god-like work attitude is that?
"This is the ultimate dream of a corporate slave."
"I just finished working overtime and saw this live stream, and tears started falling."
"He slacks off at work playing King of Glory, but he leaves work on time. He knows how to work."
"People who study medicine are so good to themselves!"
Shen Zhiwei's expression clearly said, "I'm so glad I came to this job."
Shen Zhiwei and her best friend stood in the middle of the school clinic, looking at each other for two seconds.
Then Shen Zhiwei suddenly smiled.
It wasn't the shy, slight smile from before, but a genuine, heartfelt, happy smile, complete with his little tiger teeth.
She turned to look at her best friend and silently mouthed four words: "Three thousand a month."
My best friend mouthed a silent reply: "And barbecue."
The two nodded simultaneously, their expressions matching.
This job is incredibly lucrative.
The next morning, Lin Mo walked into the school clinic at 7:58.
He was carrying a cup of soy milk and a meat bun.
His movement of pushing open the door stirred up a gust of wind, and then he saw Shen Zhiwei.
Shen Zhiwei had arrived ahead of time.
She was wearing a newly changed white lab coat, which was probably a little too big.
The sleeve was a little too long, so she folded it up twice, revealing a section of her slender white wrist.
Her hair was neatly tied up in a low ponytail and secured with a black hair tie.
A few stray hairs fell from beside her ears, tinged with a faint brown hue in the morning light.
P.S.: There will be two more chapters after midnight.
