Chapter 37: The Death of Serena
Chapter 37: The Death of Serena
The burly body crashed to the ground. Serena, standing nearby, heard Clayton's shout, followed by the sound of gunfire, and covered her ears in fright.
She, who could sell her fellow human beings without any pressure, became afraid of death.
"Don't kill me, don't kill me!"
Li Yisen rubbed his lower back and stood up; it still hurt from the fall.
"Don't worry, I won't kill you. Instead, I'll cooperate with you."
"cooperate?"
Serena was stunned.
Despite his disgust at the transparent liquid, Li Yisen stepped forward and helped the woman up; her body was still trembling.
"That's right, it's a partnership. From now on, everything in the 13K will be mine, whether it's the share of the sex industry, human trafficking, or even you."
"..."
When the topic of cooperation came up, Serena's trembling heart gradually calmed down. No matter what the future held, she had to keep the other party calm now.
"Yes, you have proven your strength. The Frederick family is willing to cooperate with the strong."
Lee Esen stepped forward and put his arm around the woman's shoulder.
"Where are those people and goods? I need to get my hands on them before the remnants of the 13K move out. Of course, you will get as much as you were originally entitled to."
Serena took the opportunity to put her hand on the other person's shoulder and then reached up to try to find the hair.
In fact, she distrusts people who hide their faces. Shouldn't they take off their masks if they want to cooperate?
"Those goods are in the basement on XXXX Road. This is my way of showing my sincerity. I also know many secrets of this city, and I'm willing to share them with you if we cooperate for a long time. I..."
Before Serena could finish speaking, Lee Ethan had already pulled out the pistol he had picked up and shot Serena in the chest.
"Bang bang bang"
The excruciating pain startled Serena, and as she gradually lost her strength, she slipped into someone's arms.
"Why? Don't you want to replace the 13K?"
An unmasked voice rang out softly, audible only to the two of them.
"You lied to me once, and I lied to you once. Now we're even, Miss Secretary."
"..."
Serena looked incredulous; she recognized the voice—Ethan Lee.
How is that possible? He was shot in the abdomen just a few days ago, and now he's alive and kicking, taking down the 13K headquarters. It's impossible.
"It was actually..."
Serena died with her eyes wide open, her life cut short. Lee Ethan had no idea what this venomous woman was thinking in the end; he simply turned on his flashlight and crouched down.
First, he checked Serena's hands to make sure she wasn't holding any clues, then he rummaged under her clothes, trying to find something useful.
Of course, he didn't search for bodycon skirts; they were just too much when they were wet.
After searching the woman, they searched Clayton, taking two sets of keys of unknown origin, a gold necklace, two gemstone rings, and a watch that they only knew was a Patek Philippe.
As for the phone, he didn't care. Putting aside whether it could be unlocked, as a police officer, he knew very well that the phone could be located, and even if it was turned off or the SIM card was removed, it wouldn't make a difference.
Police officers don't usually use such complicated techniques for theft, but they would definitely need them for major cases like today's.
Just then, a sound came from outside, indicating that his colleagues had arrived.
Lee Ethan rushed to the back door, blasted off the chains with three shotgun shots, and escaped. The police were able to pinpoint his location.
"Stop! Don't run!"
"If you run again, I'll shoot."
"Bang bang bang"
Ignoring the gunshots behind him, Lee Ethan got into his Toyota parked on the street behind the building and drove off immediately, but was spotted by the police who had surrounded him.
"The suspect got into a white Toyota Corolla and is heading towards XXXX Avenue. Requesting helicopter support."
"receive."
The police, who arrived late, carefully counted the bodies of more than ten people in the house and reported that the suspect possessed a heavy machine gun. The sight of bullet holes everywhere was truly shocking.
Ignoring the police cars and officers along the way, Li Yisen sped along, thankfully it was close to midnight, so he could drift on the streets.
"Today I'm going to get a 7-star result."
Before Lee Ethan could experience the skills of an amateur racer, the sound of bullets interrupted his actions.
"Bang bang bang bang bang"
The windshield was shattered, and a bullet pierced through the car body and grazed past. Japanese cars are inherently fragile and couldn't stop bullets at all.
"Damn, aren't those guys afraid of being held accountable later?"
Seeing two helicopters taking off in the distance, Lee knew he would have a hard time escaping by car and wasted too much time inside.
Soon, police cars appeared in front and behind. Following his backup plan, Li Yisen parked his car at the entrance of an alley, picked up his shotgun, and fired a shot at the nearest policeman.
"Bang"
The slug pierced the front of the car and hit the engine, causing the police car to stop. He knew the location of the police car's engine very well.
The two patrol officers inside the car got out and fought back, riddling the Toyota with bullets.
If Lee Esen wanted to, a single bullet would have been enough to pierce the steel plate of the police car door and kill several policemen with ease. However, he did not do so. He just glanced at the car he had acquired that day and then rushed into the dark alley with his shotgun.
"The criminal hid in an alley on XXX Road."
Following his memory, Li Yisen arrived at a manhole cover, lifted it, and jumped down. Instantly, a stench assaulted his nostrils.
Even with a mask on, Lee Ethan couldn't help but frown. The sewers were worse than the slums where homeless people gathered; they were arguably America's darkest world.
Corpses, garbage, and sewage were everywhere.
Lee Ethan put away his weapon as he ran, and he was skeptical as to whether the police would follow.
Because he would never chase after it; the sewer system is complicated and the environment is extremely poor, so it's not worth the "risk" for a little bit of money.
Sure enough, with the help of a flashlight, we saw a rather large rat, a spider the size of a fist, as well as sewage and some animal carcasses at our feet. Some of the sewage pits were deep enough to drown a person, and animals were churning inside.
I don't know if it's a fish, or some other animal, like a crocodile?
Soon a figure appeared before them, and the other person met their numb gaze. It was an old man sleeping in the sewer, also known as the "Mole Man".
The so-called mole people are homeless people living in the sewers. They include drug dealers, addicts, pimps, mental patients, pregnant homeless people, and even runaway children.
Of course, there aren't many mole people like this in Zee City. In the famous gambling city of Las Vegas, there are as many as 7000 mole people, which is comparable to the population of a small town.
Not long after, he saw a middle-aged couple who were using drugs and were making an invitation to Li Yisen in a very convincing manner.
"Sir, would you like to treat yourself to something? It's only $5."
The woman sitting on the tattered bed sheet took off her clothes, trying to attract men to her.
Lee Ethan noticed that both of them were secretly holding weapons, and it was clear that if he dared to approach, he would become prey.
"Get away from me, or I'll shoot."
Faced with the gun, the drug-using couple hurriedly retreated to their tent, still whispering among themselves.
"This guy is really annoying. If he doesn't want it, he doesn't want it, but he still pulls out a gun."
"Don't worry, there are some big rats over there to take care of him. Speaking of which, it's those damned guys who poured out some chemicals that caused the rats to grow bigger and bigger. Will they mutate like in the movies?"
"I think you're overthinking it. I think you've just eaten too much."
