Chapter 1293 - 688: Parties and Socializing
Yao Yuanfeng wasn’t particularly warm toward You Jiang and Cheng Benqin.
Of course, with the position he held in the industry now, even if the other party was a Movie King or Movie Queen, Yao Yuanfeng had the capital to be less than enthusiastic.
When you think about it, no matter which Movie King or Movie Queen it is, at the end of the day they still have to act in projects; there are new award‑winners every year, but in this line of work there are only a few film and television companies that have become true giants, and only a few people who own them.
Unless One Day, You Jiang and Cheng Benqin became industry icons like Meryl Streep, or had a very solid, deep audience base and box office pull like Liang Yuanpu, or were Celebrity actors as hugely popular as Zhou Yun and Song Chi, at most, Yao Yuanfeng would just be a bit more polite to them.
Actors and celebrities are two different things; the industry respects actors, but the business model favors celebrities.
Seeing that Yao Yuanfeng really had no intention of going over to greet them, Zhou Yun went herself.
As soon as the previous group moved away, Zhou Yun immediately stepped forward and said, "Sister Benqin, congratulations! Please allow me to express my respect and admiration for you. I really love your performance in ’Song of Wandering’, it was amazing, I admire you so much!"
When Cheng Benqin saw Zhou Yun suddenly pop up and, with this inexplicable enthusiasm, pour out her fondness, her eyes widened in shock for a few seconds before a smile finally appeared on her face.
"I admire you a lot too," Cheng Benqin said, very gentle and very courteous. "I never thought I’d actually win."
Zhou Yun: "But you absolutely deserved that award."
Cheng Benqin smiled and thanked her.
"My favorite scene is the one after you attend the funeral in the movie, the part where you’re riding in the car on the way home," Zhou Yun said. "You sit in the car, and the lights outside the window shift across your face—that bit is just mesmerizing."
The smile on Cheng Benqin’s face deepened a little.
"That’s one of my own favorites too."
Zhou Yun: "Congratulations again, Sister Benqin, congrats!"
With a warm smile, Cheng Benqin said, "I’m also very happy to receive your congratulations."
"Benqin, Xiao Yun, let me take a photo of you two together," You Jiang suddenly said.
Zhou Yun immediately nodded with a smile and said sure.
She had already made up her mind: since those comments had appeared online—and were even coming from her own fans—she ought to do something. The first thing was to post a photo of herself and Cheng Benqin together on her Weibo.
And now You Jiang just happened to be there to take the picture for them.
Zhou Yun and Cheng Benqin stood very close, their posture friendly and intimate.
"OK." You Jiang snapped several shots of them and then made an OK gesture.
Zhou Yun joked, "I wonder if I might be lucky enough to get a photo with the Movie King as well?"
You Jiang immediately raised his hand and gave her a light, playful swat. "Don’t tease this old guy, okay?"
He was laughing happily.
Zhou Yun said, "You, an old guy? Isn’t this exactly when you’re about to really take off?"
You Jiang entered the industry early; he started acting when he was around ten. In his era, there weren’t many people who started acting that young—in fact, there weren’t that many people in acting at all.
Now, You Jiang was only in his early forties, almost fifty, but for a male actor that wasn’t much of a handicap.
It’s a rather helpless truth: male actors’ careers last longer than female actors’.
It’s rare for an Actress in her forties or fifties to suddenly explode in popularity, but there are always a few male actors who do.
After chatting with them for a bit, Zhou Yun was ready to head back.
At the party, glasses clinked and overlapped, the Starlight glittered, and everyone was greeting each other, making small talk, taking photos together.
When Zhou Yun found Song Chi, he was surrounded by several women.
Once those women saw Zhou Yun come over, they slipped away one by one.
Song Chi’s expression was that of someone wanting to escape but unable to, visibly awkward.
Zhou Yun: "..."
She hadn’t thought much of it at first, but the way they all scurried off made her inevitably think a bit more.
She looked at Song Chi and asked, "Tsk tsk, Mr. Song, you’re quite the ladies’ man, huh."
Song Chi said, "With you, I really am quite blessed with beauties."
Zhou Yun: "Smooth talker."
Song Chi wrapped an arm around her waist, the gesture intimate.
"Are we getting ready to head back?"
Zhou Yun asked, "Do you still have anything to do here?"
Song Chi: "More or less done. I’ve said hello to everyone I needed to."
"Then let’s go back. Get some rest early, you haven’t been sleeping well these past few days," Zhou Yun said. "Tomorrow morning we still have to catch the high‑speed rail back to the crew."
Song Chi said, "I’m more concerned about something else."
