Chapter 1508 The Abyss Appears
Chapter 1508 The Abyss Appears
From the fourth floor all the way down to the lobby on the first floor, Chen Jun encountered at least six waves of attacks of different scales and levels of professionalism in just a few floors of stairs and corridors.
There were reckless brutes wielding AKs and firing wildly, cunning guys hiding around corners and sniping, and even idiots trying to throw grenades at him from upstairs windows.
"Damn it... these bastards, they'd risk their lives for a hundred million, huh?!" Chen Jun cursed under his breath as he changed what he didn't know was how many magazines.
The key issue is that the hunters seem endless, vary greatly in quality, and are so numerous as to be annoying.
How many people actually accepted the mission to carry out the attack? Or rather, how many outlaws, warlords, and bandits from South Vietnam and the surrounding areas were blinded by the prospect of a hundred million US dollars and flocked to the scene? Even Chen Jun himself was a little confused.
This has completely exceeded his initial plan to "lure the snake out of its hole".
According to the plan devised by him and Jiang Ling, his high-profile, even "arrogant," entry into the country was intended to attract the attention of the real target, "The Abyss," forcing their forces in South Vietnam to react and expose their whereabouts and intentions. As soon as "The Abyss" made its move, the elite agents of the National Security Bureau, hidden in the shadows and directly commanded by Jiang Ling, would act like sharks smelling blood, immediately conducting counter-tracking and infiltration, following the clues to strike at the heart of the enemy.
But now things have gotten worse. Before he even saw the shadow of the "Abyss," he's attracted hordes of hyenas blinded by money! This has completely disrupted his rhythm and greatly increased the risk of exposure and accidents.
When he finally broke through all the obstacles and arrived at the reception area of the lobby on the first floor, the scene in front of him made Chen Jun's anger and killing intent soar to the peak!
Behind the reception desk, two young girls in hotel uniforms lay slumped on the floor, surrounded by large patches of dark red blood that had not yet fully congealed. Their eyes were wide open, their faces still showing the terror and bewilderment of dying, their youthful faces a stark contrast to the glaring blood beneath them.
Judging from the wound, he was either hit by a stray bullet or simply shot by the mob that rushed in.
As a soldier, especially one who has experienced real war, deeply understands the value of peace, and considers protecting it his sacred duty, what Chen Jun finds most intolerable is this indiscriminate killing of innocent civilians! No matter which country it happens in, no matter what skin color or ethnicity the victims are, this atrocity is equally heinous and will ignite his deepest anger!
“Okay…” Chen Jun’s voice was terrifyingly low, as if it came from the deepest hell.
The last trace of human emotion in his eyes vanished completely, replaced by a pure, cold, chilling killing intent, as if forged from mountains of corpses and seas of blood.
“Since you all value money over life, and since you enjoy killing innocent people so much…” Chen Jun slowly raised the AK-47 in his hand, which was covered in blood and had a slightly hot barrel. He pointed the muzzle at the direction of the hotel’s main entrance—where several armed men dressed in disheveled clothes, carrying weapons, and with greedy and fierce expressions on their faces were trying to rush in.
"Then I'll grant your wish. I'll send you to hell to spend that hundred million dollars!"
Da da da da da——
The frenzied gunfire erupted once more! This time, Chen Jun didn't conserve ammunition or attempt precise bursts. He simply pulled the trigger, unleashing the remaining bullets from his magazine like a metallic storm towards the figures at the doorway!
At such close range, with such dense firepower, and with Chen Jun's furious and merciless attack, the three or four armed men at the door didn't even have time to let out a complete scream before they were hit by this sudden and violent barrage of bullets. They were covered in blood, flew backward like rag dolls, and crashed heavily onto the steps outside the door. They twitched a few times and then fell silent.
Chen Jun emptied the magazine and casually tossed the scalding hot AK onto the ground. He was covered in blood, some of his own, but mostly the enemy's. He stood there in the center of the chaotic, corpse-strewn, and smoke-filled lobby, his cold gaze sweeping across the doorway.
However, before he could even take a step towards the door, excited and noisy shouts erupted outside, in the local language, mixed with some broken English:
"He's coming out! He's coming out!"
"The target is in the lobby on the first floor! Don't let him get away!"
Then came more footsteps, the sound of vehicles screeching to a halt, and the click of gun bolts being pulled, coming from all directions outside the hotel.
Chen Jun paused, not rushing out immediately. He ducked behind a thick, load-bearing concrete pillar, quickly and calmly observing the situation outside through the cracks in the broken glass windows and door frames.
Outside the hotel's main entrance is a small circular driveway and a reception area, where several hotel shuttle buses and limousines are parked. Beyond that is a relatively spacious parking lot, filled with all sorts of vehicles. At this moment, along the edge of the circular driveway and parking lot, countless shadowy figures are moving about, using vehicles, flower beds, and lampposts as cover, with gun barrels faintly pointed at the hotel entrance.
What's more troublesome is that Chen Jun can sense a faint, imperceptible sense of danger, as if he's being targeted, emanating from some higher and more distant vantage points. There are snipers!
Going out like that would undoubtedly make him an easy target. No matter how skilled he was, his chances of survival in such an open area, covered by multiple layers of crossfire, were extremely slim.
We must use the obstacles! We must move quickly and cannot stop!
Chen Jun's mind raced as his gaze swept across the terrain outside. Cement pillars, the hotel's low wall, the welcoming car, the densely packed vehicles in the parking lot... these were all potential cover and routes of movement.
His gaze finally settled on a minibus-type welcome vehicle about ten meters away from the hotel entrance. The vehicle was large enough to provide good cover, and its position was relatively forward. If he could rush over there and use it as a springboard, he could quickly enter the deeper part of the parking lot where the traffic was denser and the terrain was more complex.
"That's it!"
Chen Jun took a deep breath, adjusting his physical condition to its best. He pulled out the last two grenades from his waist (scavenged from the bodies of the previous attackers) and estimated the approximate distribution of the enemies outside.
There was no time to hesitate! The outer encirclement was tightening, the shouts were getting closer, and you could even see people trying to flank from the side!
"Fight!"
Chen Jun suddenly emerged from behind the pillar! As he appeared, he simultaneously threw two grenades in arcs, aiming them at the relatively densely populated areas on the left and right sides outside the main entrance!
"Grenade!"
"Lie down!"
Suddenly, panicked shouts and sounds of people lying down came from outside.
"Boom!"
Two explosions, almost simultaneous, rang out in the open field outside! Sparks flew and shrapnel flew everywhere, temporarily suppressing and disrupting some of the enemy's firepower.
It's now!
Like a tiger spotting a cheetah's weakness, Chen Jun suddenly sprang into action! He didn't go in a straight line, but instead charged out of the hotel entrance in a zigzag, erratic pattern! He was incredibly fast, practically skimming the ground as he sped away!
Da da da……
Gunshots rang out like popping beans! Bullets chased after his figure, striking the concrete ground and sending sparks flying, crackling and popping against the hotel walls and windows! The whistling sound of bullets tearing through the air was incessant!
Chen Jun paid no heed to this; all his attention was focused on moving and finding cover! The moment he rushed out of the gate, he lunged at the nearest concrete pillar in the porch, pressing his body against it. Bullets struck the other side of the pillar, sending shards of stone flying.
Without the slightest hesitation! Taking advantage of the moment the pillar provided cover, he exerted his strength again, leaping diagonally forward, rolling, and taking cover behind a car that had been blown to a skewer. Bullets followed closely, clanging against the car and shattering all the windows.
"He's behind the car!"
"Crossfire! Don't let him get away!"
The enemy outside was clearly well-trained and quickly adjusted, attempting to block Chen Jun's movement path with crossfire.
But Chen Jun's movements were too unpredictable and swift! He never stayed behind any cover for more than a second! Every appearance was accompanied by a rapid short sprint and change of direction, making full use of every protrusion, every car, and even every shell crater as instantaneous cover! His figure moved through the hail of bullets like a ghost, and the bullets were always half a step behind him, or hitting the spot he had just left.
A dozen seconds, which would normally be nothing more than a blink of an eye, felt exceptionally long in this life-or-death race. When Chen Jun finally made a diving leap and rolled awkwardly but precisely into the shadows under the minibus, he felt his heart pounding, his lungs twitching like bellows, and all the muscles in his body trembling slightly from the extreme burst of energy and tension.
In that brief sprint of a dozen seconds, he exerted almost all his strength, pushing his speed, reaction time, and tactical evasion to the extreme! A slight misstep, and he would be a corpse lying in a pool of blood right now.
"Damn it...it's my turn to fight back!" Chen Jun lay prone under the car, panting heavily, quickly changing to the last full magazine, his eyes burning with cold fury. He had entered the parking lot area, where the dense traffic and relatively complex terrain made it an ideal guerrilla battlefield for a lone wolf like him. He wanted to show those greedy hunters outside who the real hunters were!
However, just as he adjusted his breathing, preparing to use the vehicle as cover to begin a bloody counter-hunt—
A strange phenomenon has emerged in the comprehensive perception provided by the hacker space.
The numerous crisis signals outside, which had been like a persistent, lingering thorn in his side, were actually... beginning to weaken? Not just one or two, but large swaths of them were rapidly receding? The gunfire also became sparse and sporadic, and in some directions, there was even complete silence.
The encirclement, which was originally like a boiling oil pan, seemed to cool down and disintegrate rapidly in just a few seconds?
what's the situation?
Chen Jun's heart skipped a beat, and he immediately held his breath, raising his senses to the limit. He heard shouts from outside, different from the previous frantic battle cries, more orderly, lower, and commanding.
I heard heavy, rhythmic footsteps—the sound of military boots pounding the ground! I heard the roar of an engine—not a pickup truck or a modified vehicle, but more like…an armored vehicle?
Suddenly, a flash of lightning struck Chen Jun's mind!
Such order, such rapid clearing and suppression, such uniform action... these are absolutely not things that a rabble hastily assembled for bounty purposes could accomplish!
Unless... it's the military!
But what reason could the South Vietnamese army have, and how could they possibly have, to appear here so "timely" in such a short period of time and forcibly intervene in this hunt targeting him personally, which was triggered by the underworld? Even if the South Vietnamese police or military received a report of a fierce gunfight at the hotel, their response time could not possibly have been so fast, and they could not have cleared the area so forcefully and efficiently from the outset.
unless……
A name, like a cold, venomous snake, suddenly burrowed into Chen Jun's thoughts—an abyss!
Unless it's an "abyss"! This massive organization, which has been deeply rooted in South Vietnam for many years and whose tentacles may have already penetrated into the military, political and business circles, has the ability and motivation to forcibly take over the situation at the right time and in such a "formal" way!
They didn't come to save themselves, nor did they come to maintain order.
They've come to... close the net!
They snatched themselves, the "bait" that had stirred up the entire South Vietnamese underworld, from the mouths of those chaotic hyenas, and then let them "deal with" them!
"So that's how it is... So you've finally shown yourself?" Chen Jun lay under the car, a cold smile playing on his lips, a smile that was a mixture of understanding and an even stronger killing intent.
The real adversary has arrived.
