Chapter 315: I’ll show you
Chapter 315: I’ll show you
Asgor glanced at Nina, ridicule practically dripping from his gaze.
"That male possesses strength far beyond ordinary beastmen, yet even he failed to gain the sacred artifact’s recognition." A cold, mocking smile tugged at his lips. "And you think a delicate little female like you can become its master?"
In his eyes, Nina was nothing more than an exceptionally beautiful female who had bewitched a group of males into risking their lives to escort her all the way here.
Nothing more.
The contempt in his expression was impossible to hide.
Lex immediately stepped in front of Nina, his gaze turning sharp and hostile as he stared coldly at Asgor.
You ignorant fool. Nina is stronger than every one of us. If she wished to, she could crush people like him without effort.
Unfortunately, he could not speak. Otherwise, he would have shredded this man apart with words alone.
Nina’s eyes cooled slightly, though her expression remained calm.
"And what if the artifact does acknowledge me?" she asked evenly. "What then?"
Asgor let out a sneer filled with disdain.
"Females truly are naïve. If you can actually obtain the sacred artifact, then I..."
His voice abruptly stopped. For a moment, he genuinely could not think of what to say. After all, in his mind, the possibility simply did not exist.
Nina arched a brow faintly, amusement flickering across her face.
"What? Suddenly afraid to finish your sentence? Or are you finally realizing your confidence might be misplaced?"
Asgor’s expression darkened instantly.
"Why would I be afraid?" he snapped coldly. "If you truly obtain the artifact, then I’ll grant you one wish."
As he spoke, contempt still lingered deep within his eyes. To him, females were weak creatures who survived by relying on males.
They deceived males.
Manipulated them.
Used soft words and fragile appearances to make males willingly hand over everything they possessed.
Strength, in his eyes, belonged solely to men.
"That’s your promise," Nina replied, the corners of her lips curving slightly with faint mockery. "Then today, I’ll show you exactly what a female is capable of."
Truthfully, she did not care much about whatever condition he could offer her. She simply disliked males like him. The kind who dismissed females for no reason at all and arrogantly believed only men could possess true power.
Nor was she acting out of blind confidence. If the Beast God had sent her here specifically to retrieve the sacred artifact, then there had to be a reason for it.
Besides... This was not the first time something like this had happened.
The spirit pearl had acknowledged her before. So had the spirit stone. Perhaps there really was something special about her existence in this world.
Asgor crossed his arms lazily over his chest, his posture filled with unconcealed mockery.
"Save your bold words until after you actually obtain it."
Then he added with a sneer, "Though since you’re a female, I suppose I won’t laugh at you even if you fail."
No matter what, he absolutely refused to believe a female could become the master of the sacred artifact.
As far as he was concerned, Nina’s success with the previous mechanisms had simply been blind luck.
Besides, those hidden doors and barriers had only opened because of him in the first place.
Without his witchcraft, she would never have made it this far.
Nina merely glanced at him calmly, completely unbothered by his ridicule.
Then she turned and slowly walked toward the coral platform.
The crystal scepter rested silently atop it, translucent light flowing through the clear surface like water beneath moonlight. The closer she moved, the stronger the strange energy radiating from it became.
Her eyes settled quietly on the artifact.
Should she remove it first... Or directly establish ownership?
After a brief moment of thought, she chose the latter.
Nina lightly pricked her fingertip with her nail before allowing a single drop of blood to fall onto the crystal scepter.
The moment the blood touched its surface, the transparent crystal absorbed it completely.
A brilliant blue light exploded outward in an instant.
The entire hall trembled faintly beneath the overwhelming energy as dazzling light flooded every corner of the chamber, reflecting off the surrounding coral walls like waves of shattered stars.
Then suddenly, a golden contract mark slowly appeared at the center of the crystal scepter.
The symbol glowed brightly for a moment before sinking into the artifact itself.
Nina’s expression remained calm and composed.
"Shrink and come here."
The instant her words fell, the enormous crystal scepter responded immediately.
Its massive form rapidly condensed, transforming into something no larger than an exquisite crystal hairpin before flying obediently into her outstretched hand.
Silence filled the hall.
The mocking smile on Asgor’s face froze completely.
His eyes widened so much they almost lost focus.
Impossible...
Had the sacred artifact truly acknowledged her? A female?
He stared at Nina in complete disbelief, his mind momentarily blank.
How had she done it?
No... The answer was already obvious.
Which meant the hidden mechanisms she had discovered earlier had never been luck at all.
Even without him, she would have eventually passed both trials herself.
She truly was the master the sacred artifact had been waiting for all along.
Asgor secretly glanced toward Lex before quickly looking away again.
If that was true... Then this exchange had earned him far more than he originally expected.
Nina lightly twirled the miniature crystal scepter between her fingers before lazily raising a brow toward Asgor.
Asgor’s expression shifted between pale and dark repeatedly.
This time... He had lost completely, yet beneath the humiliation and disbelief, another emotion slowly surfaced within him.
Joy.
The sacred artifact had finally recognized a master.
Did that mean... He was free?
Nina casually stored the crystal scepter away before looking at him indifferently.
"Stop assuming females are inferior. In many ways, females are no weaker than males. And sometimes, they’re even stronger."
For the briefest moment, embarrassment flashed across Asgor’s face.
This time, his arrogance had truly come back to strike him.
Still... Even now, he could not fully trust females. The scars left behind by betrayal ran too deep.
Once upon a time, he had been deceived so thoroughly that he no longer believed in them at all.
Nina turned toward Lex, and the coldness in her expression softened almost instantly.
"Lex, let’s go back."
He nodded, happiness flickering visibly within his eyes.
Before leaving, he shot Asgor one final hostile glare before quickly following after Nina.
Asgor silently watched their retreating figures for several moments before suddenly speaking.
"Wait."
Nina paused and turned slightly.
Asgor slowly swam toward her.
"I keep my promises," he said calmly. "Name your wish."
"I don’t need anything from you," Nina replied without hesitation.
Asgor flicked a small crystal toward her.
The translucent crystal floated steadily through the water until Nina caught it.
"Keep this. When you finally think of a wish, activate the crystal and I’ll come find you."
He lifted his chin slightly, pride returning faintly to his expression.
"I, Asgor, never owe anyone a debt."
Nina glanced at him briefly before casually storing the crystal away alongside the sacred artifact.
Then she and Lex turned and began retracing their path through the underwater tunnels.
Only after their figures completely disappeared into the darkness did Asgor slowly turn toward the edge of the sacred hall.
His movements suddenly became unusually cautious.
Carefully... Almost fearfully... He stretched one foot beyond the invisible boundary surrounding the hall.
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then, when his foot fully crossed the threshold unharmed, Asgor’s eyes instantly reddened.
Countless emotions surged violently through his chest all at once.
Disbelief.
Relief.
Excitement.
Even the fingertips hidden beneath his sleeves trembled faintly.
He was free. After endless years trapped within this place... He had finally walked out.
Asgor slowly lifted his head and looked toward the tunnel where Nina had disappeared.
For the first time in countless years, a trace of genuine gratitude quietly stirred within his heart.
But only for a moment.
Soon, his gaze shifted toward another distant direction deep within the sea.
The faint warmth in his eyes vanished instantly, replaced by a chilling darkness so cold it felt almost murderous.
Without another word, his figure shot through the ocean at terrifying speed, vanishing into the depths like a black shadow racing toward its prey.
